Honey is one of the most valuable foods in the human diet. To remove it from the hives, it is necessary to pump it out. Usually beekeepers carry out this procedure several times. The article describes how the second honey pumping takes place in August, and the specifics of its implementation.

Necessity

Usually, honey is pumped out in the apiary twice during the warm season. This is done for the first time in July, the second time - honey pumping in August. It is not recommended to do this in autumn due to the fact that at this time the bees are preparing for wintering, and there is no point in disturbing them.

First pumping out

The question arises as to why it is necessary to carry out the second pumping out. The fact is that honey harvesting from clover, raspberry or acacia is early, and by July the hives become full, taking away from the bees a place where they could put honey in the future. The best solution in this situation is to pump out the accumulated honey at the end of June or July and make room for the bees to accumulate it in the future.

On a note. In the middle of summer, bees harvest buckwheat, linden and coriander. After pumping out the product on time, they have enough space for further collection of honey.

Organization of honey collection

It is necessary to pump out honey based on certain signs:

  1. A sufficient reason for this is when at least two-thirds of the honeycomb is sealed with wax.
  2. Another sign is the regular significant increase in honey produced by bees. This requires regular weighing of the frame. Usually at this time, the weight gain is from one and a half to two kilograms. Weigh-in is usually carried out in the evening.
  3. If the frame is removed and tilted a little, honey should not flow. In this case, it is ready to be pumped out.

If the August honey is not sealed, then it will be moist, the result of collecting such honey can become sour.

It is believed that bees begin to rest in the evening. Therefore, it is recommended to start pumping in the morning.

Important! Pumping must be done at a considerable distance from the hives. This is due to the fact that if you do otherwise, bees will begin to fly to the place of work.

How to print and dry honeycombs

For work, you can take those frames that are almost completely sealed, and there is no bee brood in them. After all, bees collect honey in order to raise offspring with it.

A complete hive frame usually weighs just over four and a half kilograms. Some frames are more complete, others less. For pumping, you need to take exactly those in which the honey is already sealed.

Dry frames

Collecting nectar, bees are known to deposit it in honeycombs. However, this is not the end of their work with him. They arrange honey ventilation so that excess moisture comes out of it. Sometimes, when you approach the hive, you can hear an even hum, which is created by bees flapping their wings in the hive. This is done to dry it. When it is dry enough, it is sealed with wax. This substance has special additives that have an antibacterial effect. The formation of such a wax composition provides quality storage for the sealed honey.

What to do with frames

In order to get the frames, it is necessary to clear the hives of flying insects. To do this, smoke-tubes are installed there for several hours.

Then, putting on a special protective net, the beekeeper approaches the hive and opens the frames.

Important! At the same time, he not only determines their suitability for pumping, but also makes sure that they do not have offspring. If there is one, then such a frame remains in its place, regardless of the state of honey on it.

The honey frames extracted from the hive are placed in an upright position in a special box.

Then they are taken to the place where the honey extractor is installed. It is a metal barrel that can rotate around a vertical line. In a honey extractor, structures with honey are placed in a vertical position.

On a note. Before placing the frame there, you need to print it. For this purpose, in most cases, a special knife is used to scrape off wax from the surface of the honeycomb.

You can also print using a special fork. It has a large number of teeth located at a small distance from each other.

In this case, the honeycomb is printed on only one side. The medogon is a metal structure that can be twisted around its axis by rotating the handle. The frames are inserted into the slot with the printed side facing out. Drying occurs during rotation. As a result, under the action of centrifugal forces, honey falls on the walls and flows down, from where it can then be collected.

After that, the honeycomb is removed, the second side is printed and put back into the honeycomb. This time the frame is facing outward with the second side.

Interesting. After the procedure, honey flows down the walls of a metal tank, from there it is assembled.

How to properly form a nest

On a note. When frames are taken from hives, you need to remember from which one they were taken.

After processing in the honeycomb, the combs are suitable for further use by bees. However, they need to be installed only in the hive from which they were taken, and pre-dried.

At the same time, they cannot be installed immediately - proper drying is needed. When choosing the honeycomb for processing, at least one frame had to be left in each hive.

Here's how to drain the frames after draining the honey. For a while, they are placed outside next to the hive. The bees will perceive the combs as a source of honey, try to dry them, and transfer everything that the honeycomb has not been able to extract back into their combs. After cleaning, the honeycombs are dried and placed in their original place.

Selection of honeycombs

How to get the maximum amount of product

For this purpose, experienced beekeepers recommend doing the following:

  1. When new hives are purchased, it is recommended to use the services of specialized stores, otherwise there is a risk of purchasing a low-quality product.
  2. It is best to take care of getting bee colonies during early spring. In this case, you need to contact trusted sellers. In this case, the likelihood of acquiring sick bees is reduced.
  3. When the honey is pumped out, it is important to return the honeycombs to the same hive in which they were before. This is important so that diseases of the bees are not transferred from one hive to another in this way.
  4. When working in an apiary, it is important to carefully monitor the health of each bee colony.
  5. Communication with more experienced people plays an important role in improving the quality of work. If possible, it is best to use it.
  6. It is important to take care of the cleanliness of the apiary and your work clothes.

When honey is pumped for the last time

On a note. It is believed that after the end of August it is not necessary to collect honey from the hives. This is due to the fact that September is the first month of preparation for wintering. If insects are disturbed during this time, it can harm them.

It is often said that the first collection usually takes place in late June or July. The second is usually done in August. Moreover, he is the last. However, the number of honey dredges can be more than two. The main reason for this is the amount of honey collected by the bees. In some cases, up to four honey pumpings can be carried out over the summer.

On a note. Honey is not only tasty, but also a healthy product.

In order to get the maximum yield, many important rules must be followed. One of them says that during intensive honey collection it is necessary to pump out honey in time from the hive. This will not only free up space for the bees to accumulate a new product, but also increase the yield of tasty and nutritious honey.
